This past spring I had the most amazing opportunity to spend a semester abroad in Florence, Italy to further not only my general education but also my experience and knowledge of both historic and modern interior design/architecture. I am so grateful to IIDA for helping me achieve this dream. During my time there (roughly four months), I was able to learn so much not only about the world but about myself. I gained more independence, attained a slower way of life and ultimately started appreciating every moment of the day. My daily routine changed completely in Europe. There I would wake up, go to the cafe down the street (Ditta Artigianale), grab a coffee and a croissant, and roam the streets of Florence before class and after when I had time. Constantly on the move, I was able to visit over 8 countries and dozens of cities both in my home base of Italy and outside. Some of my favorite trips were Paris, France. Seeing the Eiffel Tower in person, especially sparkling at night, took my breath away. Greece felt like I was living out my Momma Mia dream and the food was amazing! Notable mentions include Prague architecture. I finally got to see the Dancing House, which was a building I studied in one of my courses at TCU! There are so many more amazing trips and experiences that I could go on forever about. Abroad was the best choice I ever made, specifically learning about other cultures, cuisine and history and historic architecture and of course amazing people from all over the world. I will forever hold all these memories, knowledge and friendships I made during my four months abroad closely to me and my heart. I can confidently say that being abroad changed me into the well-rounded, educated, and experienced person I wanted to be.

If I could give one piece of advice it would be go! Go Explore. Go Experience. Go Eat (new cuisines). Go Educate yourself. Take on the world whether it be across the globe or just down the street.
